Particular days/events
The maximum temperature of 25.3°C on the 16th was the highest for April in Epping since records began in 1979.
On the 15th and 16th we had very hazy skies and spectacular sunsets as a dust cloud from the Sahara Desert moved northwards across the British Isles.

Month as a whole

A warm, dry and sunny month
The average maximum temperature of 15.5°C was the highest since records began. The overall mean temperature for the month was the second warmest since records began. As with March 2003 much of this extra warmth was due to the high average maximum temperatures. The last 12 Aprils have all been warmer than the long term (1971-2000) average. We now have to go back to December 2001 to find any month which was colder than average.
