'The cold easterly current will continue in the South, but winds will be more variable in the North owing to a small polar depression which is moving slowly south. It will be mainly cloudy in England and Wales with frost day and night and only local slight falls of snow. Cloud will be more variable in Scotland and there will be scattered snow showers which will tend to increase in frequency. (In Scotland) Temperature will rise above freezing point in low lying areas during the day but severe frost is probable fairly generally during the night. In Northern Ireland weather will be fair with temperatures locally above freezing point by day, but frost at night' At 0600 hours-Cloudy and generally dry over England, Wales and Ireland. Clearer skies over N.Ireland, Isle of Man and Scotland. Winds E to NE up to F6 on east coast of England. Clear skies over N.France, Belgium, central Netherlands and Denmark, elsewhere cloudy. The polar low mentioned in the forecast is currently just NE of Shetland. The coldest place in the British Isles is Prestwick on 19°F (-7.2°C) and the warmest is Bell Rock (off the coast of eastern Scotland-approx 20 miles SE of Arbroath)-on 36°F (2.2°C). (More about Bell Rock at http://www.bellrock.org.uk/ ).On the 0600 map as a whole the lowest temperature is 12°F (-11.1°C) at a number of stations in N.France and Denmark. Overnight minima-lowest 04°F (-15.6°C) at Dalwhinnie and the highest 34°F (1.1°C) at Malin Head (northernmost tip of Irish mainland). Previous day's maxima-lowest 27°F (-2.8°C) at Little Rissington and the highest 39°F (3.9°C) at..Leuchars (Fife), West Freugh (Wigtown), Stornoway, Aberdeen, Wick, Hatston (Orkney) and Lerwick. Precipitation-Most places stayed dry in the previous 24 hours. Roches Point wettest on 0.3mm. Snow cover/depth-No change on previous days. Snow depths are decreasing slightly with Waddington still the deepest, but now on 12". Outlook-Little change-but with a possible increase in frequency of snow showers in the North.
