'The occlusion will move steadily north over Scotland
but will probably slow up gradually as it reaches the central and northern
districts. Ahead of it there will be strong to gale easterly winds with
sleet or snow becoming rain generally near the front. Cloud will be
very low ahead of the front and will be slow to lift in the rear especially
on the east side of the country. There will be rather frequent showers
in western England and Wales with a chance of local hail and thunder.
In the east there will be fair periods but some showers are probable'
At Midnight-Atlantic low 50°N20°WE with occluded front NO.Kent
to CO.Ireland. Easterly winds to F6. Above freezing everywhere apart
from Berwick on 30°IF (-1.1°CO). Continuous light rain in many
areas. At06GMT-occluded front now N.Norfolk-N.Ireland. Easterly winds
to F8 (Bell Rock) ahead of front but S to SW behind front. Precipitation
belt has moved north with rain generally although Leuchars and Eskdalemuir
report rain and snow. Temperatures above freezing everywhere. At Midday-front
struggling to make northwards progress as it approaches the Scottish
Borders. Temperatures ahead of the front are only just above freezing
with St.Abb's Head, Leuchars, Bell Rock, Renfrew and Eskdalemuir all
reporting snow. By 1800-slightly milder conditions have edged northwards
and wintry precipitation is now confined to NE Scotland. (although the
milder air reached much of the Scottish mainland within 24 hours it
looks as if it was not until the 23rd March that significantly milder
conditions reached Shetland) Overnight minima-coldest Lerwick on 28°F
(-2.2°C). Much of England, Wales and Ireland remained above 40°F
          (4.4°C) Daytime maxima-warmest was Gorleston on 56°F (13.3°C),
          coldest Dalwhinnie on 34°F (1.1°C) Precipitation-wettest over
far north of England and Scottish Borders. Tynemouth and Leuchars 13mm,
W.Freugh 18mm. Snow cover/depth-fading fast. In England and Wales the
only place with snow depth given is Acklington (4" down to 3"
by 18GMT, thawing as well.) By 18GM T the only places to report snow
which is not thawing (or thawing only slowly) are Rattray 3" and
          Lerwick 13"
