The last three winters have all been colder than the 1981-2010 long term record.
December 2010 was the wintry month with exceptional cold and snow. The coldest December on record here (since 1978) and considered to have been the coldest over England and Wales since 1890.
January 2011 temperatures were close to normal whilst February 2011 was a mild month although the real cold was only a 100 miles or so to our east.
This winter was the dullest since I began recording sunshine in 2002.
